The very next week after bringing Twinkle out for East Coast.
I brought her to Marina Barrage for kite-flying! I’m more than willing to bring her out to dog-friendly places (which is sadly, very rare in SG).
Before this trip, I was on the search for the perfect LAYANG (aka kite).
And (of course) the easy source is to google for it and surprisingly very little turned up.
Some kite-selling local websites I’ve gathered are:
1. http://layanginthesky.blogspot.com/ (My friends bought fr here!)
2. http://flykites.webs.com/product.htm
3. http://buy-kites.blogspot.com/
I chose one from the website but I couldn’t meet with the timing of the seller. Anyhow, more searches on the web shows that SKP sells kites too! You know, SKP which sells plastic wares and stuff. And I have one SKP right at my void deck! wee~
I bought a plain triangle kite fr there!
1. Kite (large) – $7.50
2. String – $3.50
Total: $11.00 (aint that ex)
Tips to kite-buying:
- Big kite is GOOD kite. More surface area for the kite to “catch” the wind.
- Get the LONGEST string (>100m or more!) available. With the kite high high up in the sky = more stable. Rather than fight with the wind direction, like what we experienced. hee~)
Essentially just 2 tips, can’t think of more. heh.
So happily, we head to Marina Barrage for our layang day. We arrived about 5pm and boy, the sun was up and shining brightly! There were SO MANY kites up there! Lovely sight to watch. Not so lovely to fly our kite. It was a tad too crowded. Marcus nicely helped me to set up my kite high high up the sky and before i knew it, it was drastically plunging downwards. o.O Ha… We had to recover the kite which ‘cut’ so many others’ :P
We had a little picnic there as well. Eating our fly-away bee hoon, due to the crazily STRONG winds! Everything was flying everywhere! Twinkle is obviously enjoying the attention she was getting with the amount of kids gathering around her. Just look at her “Classic” hair-do, inspired by some flying dog.
When dusk arrived, close to 7pm, that was when the crowd lessen. And that’s when we played with our kites again! I got mine high high all by myself *Proud*. Un-bashful about it as it’s my first time flying kites, my childhood is more of observing my brothers making their kite out of tracing paper and canes.
I flew a kite! (One more thing on my list of things i’ve done!)
:):):)
